Wimbledon Adopts Video Review System in 2025.

The Championships court with video review system

Wimbledon will follow the American and Australian Opens in utilizing video review systems.

Video review technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.

Competitors will gain the option to question specific decisions from the official, echoing the system already in use at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.

The new system will be operational on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.

This move comes just a year after the AELTC introduced ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding role of line officials.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Players cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to review other decisions, such as:

  • Whether a ball has bounced twice.
  • If a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or body during play.
  • Potential interference at the conclusion of a point.

Notably, there is an unlimited number on the amount of challenges a player can request.

Practical Application

An illustrative example took place in a recent tournament last week, where a top player used the video challenge against Jack Draper.

The British player admitted it was a tough call for the official, but thought his rival had "played the rules effectively."

The umpire watched a replay and determined Draper was responsible for interference, awarding the point to Medvedev.

Growing Trend

Video reviews aren't new for Grand Slams. It has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit will have video reviews in place at every one of its tournaments.

Other Changes

Another change at Wimbledon this year will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.

This addresses instances where fans have occasionally been unsure if a shot was in or out.

Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have further revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
